***before anyone reads this it’s my opinion with some facts and some assumptions. sometimes you just need to vent, and no one should be butthurt over this. I have friends who love this band, and its awesome to have different views. Opinions make life more interesting.
I usually don’t shit on bands, but I just have to say this. Looking through the chat Man Overboard is doing right now has just confirmed to me that they’re assholes. So not only is your music/lyrics on level with a 6th grader, but so is your brain. If they’re not in this to try and make money, it’s a lie. They’ve come up with an excellent marketing scheme of “Defend Pop-Punk”, but from the songs I’ve heard they fit in the category of pop-rock. I guarantee they sell more shirts than they do records, because by now it’s just a fashion trend. They don’t seem to believe what they preach anyway. I will give them some credit though, because they do actually interact with their fans pretty well. I keep up pretty well with the music industry, so read any interview the band has done and you’ll see them saying “We don’t really listen to pop-punk, we don’t like it, etc.” They even took a jab at Fireworks in a video interview once (this was when MO first came out and had some hype around them, so I watched the interview to see what they were about), yet later toured and presumably became friends with them. Then they started a company to put out cassette tapes, nobody uses those, nobody wants them. But because this band is behind it kids are going to buy into it. I know MO is friends with a lot of bands I love, and hey I don’t care, people can be friends with who they want. I just feel bad for the people who buy into this when there is so many harder worker bands out there getting the shaft who actually believe in what they do. And also, taking your name from a Blink 182 song, great marketing. At least once kids figure them out and they fail out of music, they have a chance to have good marketing careers. So Man Overboard, when you go on the Pop Punk’s Not Dead (perfect time to push those shirts!) tour in a few weeks, I’ll be at the bar and away from your auto-tuned (I’ve unfortunately witnessed it as have others, but this was a while ago so maybe they don’t use it anymore? who knows?) enhanced performance. Come clean and let the real bands shine.
Okay, this is pretty cool. Refinery 29 has a deal going on where if you spends $40 you get $80 or if you spend $80 you get $160 to use at Plum For Polly. PFP has a pretty cool selection of clothes and shoes and is totally legit. I took advantage of the $80 for $160 option, the site is pretty picked over right now, but the code is good until December 31st and they’re always getting new items in.
All my friends that live here and I’ve grown up with are seriously the biggest assholes and rude about almost everything. I guess it’s just that Long Island attitude. All my more recent friends who are from other places (Brooklyn, Upstate, etc.) are just so much nicer and laid back. While living here has some perks, I really just want to get off this island already. So sick of the same people, same scenery, I just need a change.
McDonald’s at 3am may have not been the best idea. Tonight was fun, went to this bar/club and it was such a weird mix of people, but it was still a good time. Love the fact that they switched between a cover band who played actual good songs (weezer, fall out boy, typical rock songs) and a dj, plus the drinks were reasonably priced. I really need to just start going out more and not being skeptical about things.
